Cycleway

Cycleway

Coloured Thermoplastic High Friction Surfacing for Cycle Routes

CycleWay is a cycle lane demarcation surfacing. It is a hot-applied material containing pigmented modified rosin ester and granite or basalt aggregate.

CycleWay is the perfect solution for cycle schemes on both urban & rural networks, & provides a durable, maintenance-free, colourfast surface that can be trafficked 15-20 minutes after application. The skid-resistant surface enhances the safety of the cyclist by improving braking distances through increased surface friction.

The brightly coloured material acts as a visual aid to reinforce the message of conventional road markings and signs, thereby reducing the number of vehicle contraventions.

Compliances/Approvals

  • The management system of Metalite Hitex Group has been assessed and registered as meeting the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001 and BS EN ISO 14001.

Why CycleWay

  • Cost effective spread rates
  • Suitable for old and brand new asphaltic surfaces
  • Durable and hard-wearing
  • Able to be laid all year round
  • Rapid curing times typically 15 to 30 minutes
  • Manufactured using heavy metal-free pigments

Typical Uses

CycleWay material is suitable for all classes of road where high friction, coloured surfacing is specified. It is used on asphaltic surfaces with texture depths of between 0.5mm and 2.0mm, and is ideal for areas where visual demarcation is required for safety/ traffic calming purposes.

Colour

CycleWay is available in 3 standard colours; red, green and blue. Hitex pigments are all heavy metal-free.

Application Method

Please refer to the Relevant Installation Method Statement.

Cycleway Binder is a blend of modified rosin ester, process oil, thermoplastic rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer and lead-free green pigment.

Cycleway uses 100% granite or basalt aggregate.

  • Typical Aggregate Abrasion Value 1.4 (AAV)

Cycleway is a pigmented skid-resistant thermoplastic surfacing material which is ideal for use in the delineation of areas such as bus lanes, cycle lanes, give-ways and in traffic calming schemes. It is the perfect solution for urban and rural networks, providing a durable, maintenance-free and colourfast surface that can be trafficked 15-20 minutes after application. The use of skid-resistant coloured safety surfacing helps to reduce accidents through visually reinforcing the message of conventional road markings & signs.

The bags should be loaded into a preheater/mixer fitted with temperature control. If the mixer requires a colour change it should be thoroughly clear before adding the fresh material. The material must be agitated to avoid aggregate and binder separation. Allow the pigment to disperse thoroughly before application. After melting and mixing, the material should be laid at between 180 ̊c - 210 ̊c by screed shoe 200mm to 600mm wide. Spread rate will vary according to road surface but should be between 125m² and 140m² per tonne. Initial texture depth of the finished surface is typically 1.5mm with a minimum Skid Resistance Value of 60 (SRV) when measured with a pendulum tester.

VeloGrip

Resin Bonded Coloured Surfacing for Cycle Routes

VeloGrip is a cycle lane demarcation system specifically designed for use on cycle route schemes. It consists of a two component thermosetting modified epoxy binder dressed with selected aggregates which are pigmented in bold colours. The system gives excellent skid resistance in both wet and dry conditions.

VeloGrip is quick and easy to apply, and is tough and durable to give a long service life.

Compliances/Approvals

  • The management system of Metalite Hitex Group has been assessed and registered as meeting the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001 and BS EN ISO 14001. VeloGrip utilises Hitex EcoGrip BBA/HAPAS Approved binder system.

Why VeloGrip?

  • Extremely tough and durable surface; achieves the highest degree of erosion resistance during BBA scuffing tests
  • Heavy metal-free pigments
  • High friction performance without the abrasive texture of conventional high friction surfacing
  • User-friendly odourless, low toxicity binder system
  • Low energy cold-applied installation – can be laid directly onto suitable existing surface
